It is an initial interview with a prospective client to learn more about the client’s ancestor’s history, after the client fills out the information on the family history questionnaire.  During the consultation by gathering information from the client, I will suggest which package is best suitable for your needs.

Please prepare to gather information on what you have about your ancestor’s family history. 

Names, birth dates, death dates, locations, siblings, pictures, and any documents* (such as birth/death certificates, newspaper clippings, obituary cards).

When we meet, I will give you a family history questionnaire form that you will need to fill it out as much as you can.   The more you can tell me about your ancestors, the better the chance of acquiring more information.

*If you have documents, please bring it with you, so I can scan them and make the search process easier.

Whichever package is chosen according to the client’s request and from the free initial 2 hour consultation, the cost can range from $350 or higher.

• Gather together everything you already know about your ancestor(s) (client’s responsibility)

• Contact ASL Genealogy Services by email to sent up an appointment for a free consultation.

• After the consultation, determine which package fits the best for the client’s needs.

• If the client agrees to the research services, I will provide an agreement contract draft for your signature.       

Depending on current research and calendar availability, your spot will be secured with a 25% down payment, a signed contract, your family history information and a research goal in hand - I will start working on your ancestry within 2 business days of the signed contract.

It varies depending on the client’s request.  I find the information through Ancestry and other genealogy websites such as census, immigration, cemetery, military, newspapers and records from other countries.

First, we discuss your project and define your research goal.   I ask you to provide me with whatever information you can about your family to get me started so that I don’t reproduce information you already have.

We discuss the scope of the project, time frame involved, and the cost.  I ask you to sign a contract and provide the payment for the first phase of the research work.

With that payment, the signed contract, your family history information, and a research goal in hand, I start to research your ancestor’s family history.

The scope of a project is based on what the package that fits the client’s individualized needs, and estimating the time a project will take to complete is impossible.  The type of packages: for Basic and Standard, on average takes about 3-4 months, for Deluxe, about 4-5 months, and Executive a minimum 6 months due to the complexity of the amount of research required.

I will contact you when I need more information or clarification about the ancestor while I am researching.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me throughout the process.

Extra fees are charges not included in the packages.  During the process, these charges may come up while researching the client’s ancestry.  Those additional expenses will not be incurred by ASL Genealogy Services without the consent of the Client, and are to be billed separately, and at cost upon review.

• Increase lineage levels from 5 – 8 generations per surname

• Newspaper articles (obituary, marriage, etc)

• Birth, marriage, or death records

• Land and deed records

• Social Security application records

• Database – Family Tree Maker

I will provide you with a folder that includes your family history story, usb drive (downloaded documents), and standard family tree chart.
